Travel Requests With a Tab for the Travel Desk

Plan, Book, Approve
The screens come from a test list on our own SharePoint site with the columns of Microsoft's Travel requests template and a published Virto form with two layouts, one for the travel desk and one for everyone else. The names are invented.
Plan
The traveller describes the trip
The columns of Microsoft's template
Trip title, requester, destination and dates are the columns of the Travel requests list template, so you can start from that list.
A short first tab
The traveller fills in the trip only; booking details and the approval sit on their own tabs.

Book
The travel desk adds flights and hotel
A layout for the travel desk
Members of the Travel desk group open the request in a layout where the booking tab is theirs to fill in.
Costs in the same record
Estimated airfare and hotel cost stay with the trip, ready for a view or an export.

Approve
The decision is part of the record
Written back by the approval
Approvals in Lists or a Power Automate flow records the decision and the comment in the item.
Read-only in the form
Nobody edits the decision in the form. Who may change the data itself is still decided by the list's permissions.

Key benefits
Your data stays in your list
Every trip is a list item in your tenant, with your permissions, versions and views.
No code for the layout
Tabs, two columns and a layout for the travel desk are set in a drag-and-drop designer.
Each role fills in its part
Travellers plan, the travel desk books, the approval records the decision.
Every change on record
Version history shows who changed the dates, the bookings or the decision, and when.
Ready for a calendar
Travel start and end dates are what a team calendar overlays next to leave.
A form, not a lock
A read-only tab shapes the form. Who may change the data is still set by the list's permissions.
What business travel needs, and what runs it
Three tabs on a list item, a layout for the travel desk and a default layout for travellers, set up without code.
Microsoft's template already has these columns and a version with approvals; when its default form is enough, it is all you need.
Approved trips overlay the team's leave and public holidays in one calendar view.
Microsoft's approvals route the request and write the outcome back to the item; the form shows it on the Approval tab.
The request plans the trip. Expense claims with receipts and payouts belong in an expense tool.
