Color Code the SharePoint Calendar

Color coding is the better way for displaying Calendar Items

Virto Ajax Calendar is new web part for SharePoint which can be used instead of default SharePoint Calendar. Using Virto Calendar you can create different type of events and distinguish them by different colors for your easy visual comfort. For example, you can display in the same calendar items with different colors according to their types - projects, clients, departments, priorities etc.

Why need color coding

It's the simpliest way for telling the diffrent types of events from others and better way for displaying information.

What types of items can be displayed in different colors

Items dedicated to the different SharePoint Lists  of the same Site Collection

Virto Calendar can simultaneously display events from different data sources (Lists). Different colors help to distinguish events from different sources as for each source you can specify its own event color.
Choose “Modify shared web part” in the main menu, and go to the “Data source settings” section, choose one of the available data sources and click “Edit”. At the bottom part of the window choose one of the default colors for the data source items in your calendar or enter RGB code.

Items of the List but dedicated to different types

You can display items of different categories from one data source with different colors. In this case you have to define field of categorization (for example, priority or status) and select colors for each of existing values.
Note: event coloring by field type can be applied only for fields of “Choice” and “User” types (such as “Priority”, “Status”, “Assigned to” and etc.)
For example, adjust data source to display events of Tasks list with different colors according to Status.
