I think my AD Self-Service web part is corrupt or something. I've been using the web part successfully for a few weeks now; but today when I attempted to save some changes from the web part, the entire web page went blank. I can't get it to submit at all at this point.

When I attempt to add the web part to a different site or page, I get the following error:

Failed to connect to Active Directory with specified domain name, login and password. Please change connection settings and try again.
Source: Self Service.
Exception message: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80005000): Unknown error (0x80005000) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind(Boolean throwIfFail) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.get_AdsObject() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher.FindAll(Boolean findMoreThanOne) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher.FindOne() at Virto.SharePoint.ADConfigFeature.SSWebPartControl.x245b6ba85b1614fd()

How can I resolve this issue? I would prefer not to uninstall and reinstall the web part, since I have spent a lot of time defining many custom fields.

Hello,
please check your connection settings to Active Directory. Does AD User Service (not self service) web part work well with the same connection settings?

Are you telling me that a blank screen when I submit the form is the expected behavior? I also see a blank screen when I attempt to customize the web part by choosing "Modify this shared web part".

There have been no changes to the AD settings. This was working perfectly well until Friday. I have seen different errors in the past when the AD credentials were invalid, but this is not a normal error message. It is a blank screen.

At any rate, I tried the AD User Service web part with the same Default connection settings. It worked to display some users, but not all of them. I then modified the settings for the AD User Service web part to use Specified connection, and entered the same account details that were in the Default settings. When I saved the settings, I got the following message:

Failed to connect to Active Directory with specified domain name, login and password. Please change connection settings and try again.
Source: User Service.
Exception message: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8007203A): The server is not operational. at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind(Boolean throwIfFail) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.get_AdsObject() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher.FindAll(Boolean findMoreThanOne) at Virto.SharePoint.ADConfigFeature.WebPartControl.BindUsers()

The same message appeared after I switched the settings back to use the Default connection. Why would this work one time then fail with the same connection details?

BTW, using ADSIEdit (from the Windows 2003 Support Tools package) I have confirmed that the AD credentials I'm using for the AD Self-Service web part have the appropriate permissions to view and edit all fields for all relevant users. DGB
